Adjudication Hearings are held to help the Commissioner make a decision on whether there has been a breach of the Code of Conduct.

At an Adjudication the Deputy Commissioner provides evidence from the investigation, with the councillor or their legal representative responding to the allegations. Other witnesses may also give evidence.

All Adjudication Hearings are held in public, except where the Commissioner believes it is in the public interest for all or part of a Hearing to be held in private.  Some Adjudications may be held online.

Requests to attend a Hearing should be made in advance to communications@nipso.org.uk.

Further details on the process can be found in the following publications;

Adjudication Procedures, and;

Commissioner’s Protocol for Remote Hearings.
