A report has criticised elements of the care and treatment provided to an elderly patient in Domnall Care Home (Belfast).

The Ombudsman has commended the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust for the thorough way it investigated a complaint about the care and treatment received by a patient at a nursing home.

The Ombudsman has upheld elements of a complaint made about the care given by the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, to a patient with type 2 diabetes.

A woman who complained about the time it took for a hospital consultant psychiatrist to treat her mother has had her complaint upheld by the Public Services Ombudsman.

A report by the Ombudsman has criticised elements of the care provided to a patient by Spire Independent Healthcare, based in Blackpool (Lancashire). The patient was referred to Spire under a waiting list initiative operated by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

The Ombudsman has found that, prior to her death, a patient was given appropriate care and treatment at the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen. However, an investigation also concluded that the Trust should have made her family aware of a Do Not Resuscitate order placed on her medical file.

Investigation concludes that observations should have been carried out and discharge delayed until patient was well enough to tolerate fluids and food.

Ombudsman finds that man’s ‘red-eye’ should have been monitored more closely, and that an earlier diagnosis would have improved the chances of his vision being retained.
