Complaint about council’s handling of a planning application

We asked Mid and East Antrim Council to apologise to a man for failures in the way it dealt with a planning application.

Report recommendations

For service improvement and to prevent similar failings from happening in the future, we asked the Council to:

  • Remind relevant staff to clearly and accurately record all key decisions and the rationale for making those decisions
  • Review how it measures existing structures prior to presenting those measurements to a Planning Committee, particularly in cases where measurements are disputed by objectors
  • Share with staff any learning identified following this review
  • Ensure that objectors with speaking rights at Planning Committees are given the full time allocated to them.
