Investigation into care of a child with Down’s Syndrome

A woman claimed that her daughter’s development was held back by the South Eastern Trust. We upheld parts of the complaint, finding that the Trust's failings led to a loss of opportunity for the child and caused her mother upset and distress.

Report recommendations

For service improvement and to prevent future recurrence, we asked the Trust to provide training for Occupational Therapists on the importance of communication when transferring a patient between therapists.

We also asked it to carry out an audit to see whether children with developmental delay are being provided with the necessary equipment to help progress their standing and walking skills.
