Investigation into complaint about ‘unnecessary’ test on prostate cancer patient

The Belfast Trust was right to perform an invasive test on an elderly patient but should have given him more information on its risks.

Report recommendations

We asked the Trust to apologise to the patient's daughter for its failure to give him more information on the risks associated with the procedure.

To prevent future recurrence we also asked the Trust to discuss the findings of this report with the clinicians involved in the patient’s care.
