Complaint about the care and treatment of a patient with Covid-19

We upheld a woman's complaint about the care given to her father, who passed away in Antrim Area Hospital in 2021.

Report Recommendations

We found that the Trust failed to act in accordance with Departmental guidance on Covid visiting, national guidance on patient's personal care, and the NICE guidance on Delirium.  We asked it to:

  • Apologise to the complainant and her family
  • Remind medical staff of the importance of following relevant guidelines
  • Ask staff to reflect on the advice provided by our Independent Professional Advisors
  • Carry out an audit of nursing care in relation to patients' mobility, nutritional intake, and personal care
