An investigation into a complaint from a member of the public about the care and treatment provided to her late husband by three hospitals in the Belfast and South Eastern areas has led to a number of recommendations being made to the Trusts.

Investigation finds that patient should have been offered a ‘no treatment’ option during his consultation with a Doctor, but other aspects of complaint not upheld.

Investigation finds patient did not suffer an injustice, however Ombudsman recommends Trust adheres to existing orthopaedic guidelines and protocol so as not to disadvantage others with similar clinical needs.

The Ombudsman has found that the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust made a concerted attempt to resolve a complainant’s concerns about the care and treatment provided to her father while he was the resident of a Belfast nursing home. 

An investigation has revealed that a nursing home failed to fully record its observations of a resident's head injury following a fall, and did not call an ambulance to take him to hospital until almost eight hours after the incident. 

An investigation by the Ombudsman has found that the Southern Health and Social Care Trust provided appropriate care and treatment to a patient prior to her death from a serious heart condition in 2014.
